The Food Banks are facing a major crisis and they need your help.
Help Havant Rotary Support Local Food Banks
Many people are facing a cost of living crisis. Increases in the cost of food, energy and fuel have led to more people turning to Food Banks than ever before.
The number of people using the Food Banks has increased by 60% in the last year. At the same time donations to food banks have fallen by 50%.
The Trussell trust, which runs many Food Banks throughout the country (but not Havant) states that One in seven people in the UK are facing hunger.
In the latest inflation figures it has been reported that the cost of food rose by 4.5% in the last year, which is 25% higher than the overall rate of inflation which stands at 3.5%. Over the last 3 years the cost of the average family shopping bill has risen alarmingly. When you add increasing mortgage rates, utilities etc, it is easy to understand why so many families finances are under pressure.

Havant Rotary’s Feed Havant Project
Feed Havant is a Havant Rotary Club Project set up to help the Food Banks with the excellent job they are doing to help people in a time of crisis.
Havant Rotary Club has already donated over £26,000 to support the Food Banks in Havant, Leigh Park, Emsworth, Waterlooville and Hayling Island. In addition we have already collected and distrubuted to the food banks a large number of trolleys of food from our collection days at local supermarkets and our Take a Can to work project.
Our aims are:
- Increase the awareness of the service that The Food Banks can provide if you need help, and how to reach them.
- To increase food donations to all our food banks.
- Raise money both from ourselves, the general public and local businesses for the Food Banks, to enable them to be able to purchase food when donations are low.
- To attempt to persuade the supermarkets to keep food donations local.
- To increase the co-operation of the food bank network as working together will help their effectiveness and increase their buying power.
